Our Story

How it all started...

In December 1992, Pastor R. L. McDonald and his brother, Dana McDonald, stepped out on faith, after being moved by God to leave the church they had been with for a number of years, built by God and their physical family. God encouraged them to start a church with a new spiritual family, and soon thereafter 1st Philadelphia Independent Ministries was born.

The founding members of the church first met at the House of Praise Church, where the late Elder George Anderson was Pastor. This is where the church was officially established. After being established, there was no permanent place to worship. Pastor McDonald prayed for a blessing from God, and within a short matter of time the members of 1st Philadelphia had a place to worship. After residing in a few other locations, on September 12, 2003 God made a way for the 1st Philadelphia Church Family to purchase the building where we currently reside at 1337 Hepburn Ave.

Expanding the vision...

We continue to spread the Word of God, teach the Word of God, and
strive to be a lighthouse in this community. 1st Philadelphia Independent
Ministries is a place where people can meet Jesus, learn how to be more
“Christ-like,” and be loved. We are: “One church, following One
vision, under One God”, while growing from glory to glory. 1st
Philadelphia is thankful to God for all that He has done for us
throughout the years. God still has a wonderful work for us to
do, and we look forward to what He has planned for the years to come as
we continue to Keep Dreaming.
